Critical Criminology Inside Law Schools: The Brazilian Case
Salo de Carvalho (UFRGS)
ABSTRACT: The Criminal Sciences are lost on the network of its own methodologies. This situation can be observed through their practical and theoretical inability to understand contemporary problems related to the multiple ways of violence. In fact the Criminal Sciences crisis reflects the own Legal Theory crisis as a modern science. In such context the research investigates problems and gaps of teaching and learning Criminal Sciences, highlighting the strain relationship between Criminology, Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure. The study also presents the unsolved problems of the positivist tradition in Brazilian’s Law Schools and, finally, develops some proposals for an alternative understanding based on Critical Thought, especially in the Criminal Sciences field.
KEYWORDS: Critical Thought – Critical Criminology – Critical Legal Theory
